Senior Dom Gonzalez (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) was the highest collegiate finisher in the hammer throw as he qualified provisionally for the NCAA Championships with a throw of 173’2” to lead The College at Brockport Outdoor Track & Field teams to an impressive showing at the season-opening Jim Taylor Invitational Meet at Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania.

Gonzalez was also one of six ECAC Championship-qualifying performances for the Golden Eagles. Ray Lund (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) joined Gonzalez as a qualifier in the hammer throw while the 4x400 relay also earned the ECAC Championship qualifying standard. The relay, consisting of Eric Hine (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside), Cameron Johnson (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda), Rusty Landon (Ithaca, NY/Lansing) and Jeff Suhr (Farmington, NY/Victor), took first place in a time of 3:24.02.

For the Brockport women, Brittany Streeter (Oneida, NY/Oneida) won the 5K and Brittany Dodd was the top finisher on the 100-meter hurdles, with both earning spots in the ECAC Championships. Other first-place finishers for the Golden Eagles included Stephanie Powell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) in the hammer throw and Bridget Mayne (Schoharie, NY/Schoharie) in the shot put.

The Golden Eagles accounted for 21 top-three finishes at the open meet. Suhr was second in both the 100 and 200-meter dash events. Hine was second in the 400-meter dash and third in the 200 while Lund placed second in the discus and third in the hammer throw.

On the women’s side, Lisa VonZagorski (Arcade, NY/Pioneer) finished second in the 400-meter hurdles, and Morgan Sullivan (Derby, NY/Lakeshore) was second in both the hammer and the discus.
