Rusty Landon and Kaitlin Breed earn provisional standards for the Golden Eagles April 25, 2009 Sophomore Rusty Landon (Ithaca, NY/Lansing) and freshman Kaitlin Breed (Manchester, NY/Manchester-Shortsville) each reached NCAA Championship provisional-qualifying standards in competition at the SUNY Geneseo Invitational meet Saturday at Geneseo.
Landon qualified in the 400-meter hurdles with a winning time of 53.94 seconds and Breed qualified in the high jump winning the event with a height of 1.65 meters. Breed also won the 400-meter hurdles with a winning time of 1:05.63.
Those wins were three of the eight victories for the Golden Eagles as Doug Teed (Owego, NY/Newark Valley) won the 3k steeplechase, Pete Manktelow won the 1500 meters and Dom Gonzalez (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) took first place in the hammer throw for the men. The Brockport women were led by Breed winning two events along with Bridget Mayne (Schoharie, NY/Schoharie), who finished first in the hammer throw, and Shannon O’Keeffe (Boston, NY/Springville Griffith) who took top honors in the triple jump. Both O’Keeffe and Mayne had NCAA-qualifying standards in their victories but were lower than their previous season-best marks.
Also placing for the Golden Eagles were Steve Reiss (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport), who took second in the 400-meter dash, along with Melissa Scorse (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) who was second in the 100-meter dash.
Third-place finishers included Jeff Suhr (Farmington, NY/Victor) in the 200 meter dash, Ray Lund (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) in the hammer throw, Melissa Wassink (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) in the 800-meter run, Britney Falcon (Victor, NY/Victor) in the long jump, Becky Fabbiano (Lockport, NY/Lockport) in the pole vault and Stacey Gibbons (Eden, NY/Eden) in the shot put.
