Brockport Women’s Track & Field Wins SUNYAC Title

Sophomore Melissa Scorse (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) won both the 100- and 200-meter dashes while senior Shannon O’Keeffe (Boston, NY/Springville-Griffith) won the triple jump and the 100-meter hurdles to lead The College at Brockport Women’s Track & Field team to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship at the conference meet Saturday in Oneonta. The Brockport men took fourth place in the meet.

The Brockport women won its first-ever SUNYAC Championship in Track & Field with 176 points, finishing 38 points ahead of second-place SUNY Cortland (138). SUNY Geneseo (130½) finished third, followed by Buffalo State (109½), SUNY Oneonta (90), SUNY Plattsburgh (68), SUNY Fredonia (53) and SUNY Oswego (13).

For the men, SUNY Geneseo won the team title with 171 points, followed by SUNY Cortland (154½), Buffalo State (122) and Brockport (120). SUNY Oneonta (95) was fifth, with SUNY Fredonia (63), SUNY Plattsburgh (29½) and SUNY Oswego (22) rounding out the team scoring.

Scorse was first in the 100-meter dash with a winning time of 12.42 seconds and took top honors in the 200-meter dash with a time of :25.68. O’Keeffe was the winner in the 100-meter hurdles, posting at time of 15.74 seconds, and then set a new facility record with a winning leap of 37’10½” in the triple jump.

Other top finishers for the Golden Eagles included Amanda Elias (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valle) with a second-place finish in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:17.41, Nicole Sosnoski (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside), who finished second in the long jump (16’10¾”), and Stacey Gibbons (Eden, NY/Eden), the second-place finisher in the shot put with a heave of 38’2¼”.

The Brockport men were paced by the throwers with three first-place finishes with Dom Gonzalez (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) improving his NCAA-provisional distance from earlier this season with a winning hammer throw of 180’5”. Ray Lund (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) was the winner in the discus with a winning toss of 153’2” and Zach Williamson (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent) won the shot put with a heave of 47’3½”.

Rusty Landon (Ithaca, NY/Lansing) won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.42 seconds, and the 4x100 relay team also placed first for Brockport.
