Brockport Women Take 2nd at ECAC Championships
Men finish fourth behind strong throwing effort

Freshmen Melissa Scorse (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon), Amanda Elias (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley) and Kelsey Conn (Batavia, NY/Elba) each had second place finishes at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships over the weekend to propel The College at Brockport Women’s Track & Field team to a second place team finish at the event. The Brockport Men took fourth place as a team with a first-place finish by Josh Dupuis (Tupper Lake, NY/Tupper Lake) in the shot put and a third place finish in the discus. The championships were held at Springfield College in Massachusetts.

The Brockport Women finished with 47 points and were just 10 points behind Moravian College who won the title with 57 points. Springfield College was third with 40 points, Amherst College was fourth with 33 and New Jersey City College was fifth with 32 points. The Golden Eagle Men scored 41.5 points to finish behind team champion Moravian College (88 points), SUNY Cortland (60) and Springfield College (52). St. Lawrence University was fifth with 39 points.

Scorse took second place in the 100 meter dash with a 12.36 time while Elias was second in the 800 with a finishing time of 2:15.52 and Conn was the runner-up finisher in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:50.08.

Shannon O’Keeffe (Boston, NY/Springville Griffith) was third in the triple jump and fifth in the 100-meter hurdles for the Golden Eagles and the 4x400 relay finished third as well. Others scoring points for Brockport were Bridget Mayne (Schoharie, NY/Schoharie) with a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw and Britney Falcon (Victor, NY/Victor) with an eighth-place finish in the triple jump.

Brockport finished strong in the throwing events to lift the men’s team to a fourth place finish. Dupuis won the shot put with a heave of 51 feet 6.25 inches and was third in the discus with a toss of 150’ 4”. Dom Gonzalez (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) and Matt Hand (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley) finished fifth and eighth respectively in the Hammer Throw and Ray Lund (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) was the sixth-place finisher in the discus.

Also scoring points for the men were James Kennedy (Berlin, NY/John Jay) who took fifth in the pole vault, Charlie Higgins (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) who was fourth in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase, Joe Hitchcock (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park), the fourth place finisher in the high jump and Pete Manktelow (Hornell, NY/Hornell) who was fourth in the 1,500-meter run.
