Three All-Americans Crowned at NCAAs in Track and Field
Dom Gonzalez, Josh Dupuis and Shannon O'Keeffe earn All-America honors Final Results May 24, 2008
Dom Gonzalez was one of three All-Americans at the Outdoor Track Nationals Junior Shannon O'Keeffe (Boston, NY/Springville-Griffith) finished second in the triple jump, while senior Josh Dupuis (Tupper Lake, NY/Tupper Lake) took sixth in the shot put and junior Dom Gonzalez (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woobury) finished seventh in the hammer throw to earn All-America honors at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
O'Keeffe jumped an even 12 meters (39'4-1/2") on her fifth of six jumps to take second place overall in the event in which she won the national championship at the national indoor meet in March.
Dupuis had his best throw on his third attempt in the shot put and cleared 16.24 meters (53'3-1/2") to finish sixth by a margin of less than two inches to pick up his fifth All-America award of his career at Brockport.
Gonzalez finished second in the first flight of throwers in the hammer throw but dropped to seventh overall after the second flight of throwers competed. His distance of 54.22 meters (177' 11") came on his second overall throw after faulting on his first attempt.
Freshman Kelsey Conn (Batavia, NY/Elba) finished ninth in the 10,000-meter run, just one spot shy of All-America standards.
Sophomore hammer thrower Bridget Mayne (Schoharie, NY/Schoharie) and the women’s 4x400 relay team of Randi DeBoy (Salamanca, NY/Salamanca), Christine Reamer (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca), Shannon O’Keeffe (Boston, NY/Springville-Griffith) and Amanda Elias (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley) failed to qualify for the finals in their events.
Conn narrowly missed All-America status by just nine seconds as the top eight in each event earn the honor. Her time of 36:10.61 was 25 seconds off the top speed posted by Esther Erb of Case Western Reserve.
