Junior Shannon O’Keeffe (Boston, NY/Springville-Griffith) was named the 2008 Rochester Area College Athletics (RACA) Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year as announced by the association June 4. RACA honors the top athlete in each sports sponsored by the Rochester area college and universities each year.

O’Keeffe was also voted the top Indoor Track & Field athlete by the organization after winning the NCAA Division III National Championship in the triple jump at the Indoor Track Championships. O’Keeffe followed up her indoor performance with a second place finish at the Outdoor Championships and was also honored by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as the Atlantic Region Female Field Athlete of the Year at an awards ceremony prior to the start of the Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

O’Keeffe had the best qualifying triple jump for the outdoor season and was also qualified for the NCAA Championships as part of the 4x400 relay. She earned All-State honors in the triple jump, 100-meter hurdles, long jump and 4x400 relay as the Golden Eagles won the New York State Championship for the first time in school history.

O’Keeffe was a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) champion and a First-Team All-SUNYAC selection. She was also the SUNYAC Field Athlete of the Week twice and RACA Female Athlete of the Week once during the outdoor season.
