SUNY Brockport Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Constitution

PURPOSE:
The State University of New York College at Brockport Student-Athlete Advisory Committee was formed for the purpose of:
  1. Providing a communication link between varsity athletes and the athletic administration.
  2. Encouraging communication and unity among and between varsity athletes and teams.
  3. Increasing awareness of athletic programs on campus and in the community.
MEMBERSHIP:
The council will be composed of two varsity athletes from each sports team. One representative from each team will be a voting member, while the other will be an alternate. Both representatives are strongly encouraged to be in attendance at all SAAC meetings and functions.

ELECTION:
Council representatives are appointed by their respective coaches based on team member's recommendations. Each representative is expected to serve a one-year term and may be reelected. Team representatives should be selected in the spring semester for the upcoming year. Any varsity student-athlete is eligible for appointment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Attend all Student-Athlete Advisory Committee meetings.
  2. If unable to attend a meeting, arrange that the alternate will be in attendance.
  3. Represent the team's views in committee meetings. Keep the team apprised of current committee issues and communicate the team's views to the committee.
  4. Encourage team members to assist with any projects deemed significant by the committee.
OFFICERS:
At the last meeting in the spring the council will assign the following positions:
(Assignment can be done through election or group consensus).
  1. President - Is the official contact for the committee and will preside at all meetings and is responsible for preparing the agenda.
  2. Vice President - Assumes Presidential responsibilities when needed. Arranges all special events or projects.
  3. Secretary - Monitors attendance and records minutes at all meetings. Also prepares the minutes for typing. (Administration will have the minutes typed and distributed to each coach and SAAC representative).
  4. Treasurer - Will assist the administration in overseeing the funds going in and out of the SAAC account and give a treasurers report when necessary.
  5. Information Officer - Serves as the communication liaison between SAAC and all student-athletes, including SAAC representatives. Specific duties include posting written notification of upcoming general meetings and writing updates for the SAAC newsletter.
VOTING:
There must be a quorum for voting purposes. A quorum is a majority, or 50% plus one of the voting representatives present.

AMENDMENTS AND RAMIFICATIONS:
Proposed amendments shall be submitted in writing and read at the general membership meeting. Discussion and voting on the proposal shall be held at the next scheduled meeting. The constitution may be amended only with a majority vote of three/fourths of the SAAC voting members.

The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will meet every other week or as deemed necessary.
