Brockport dropped the first game of the day by a 6-0 score to Buffalo State.
Brockport (28-10-1) advances and will face the loser of Friday’s SUNY Cortland vs. Buffalo State game at 11 am Saturday in Cortland.
In game one, the Golden Eagles fell behind early as Buffalo State (27-11) scored twice in the first inning with an RBI double followed by a run-scoring single after a leadoff walk for the Bengals. Buffalo added three more runs in the fourth inning for a 5-0 lead courtesy of a three-run home run. A solo homer in the fifth rounded out the scoring for the game.
Brockport threatened in the fifth with a rally but with one out in the inning and runners on second and third, Rachel Maxon (Kendall, NY/Kendall) flew out to centerfield. Melissa Boyle (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) tagged up and scored on the play but was called out on an appeal for leaving third base early for the double play.
In game two, Brockport took the early lead in the top of the first inning as Kristina Wood (White Lake, NY/Pine Bush) hit a one-out single and scored when Ona Halladay (Palmyra, NY/Mercy) hit a long single to right centerfield. Lindsay Szymanski (Cheektowaga, NY/John F. Kennedy) followed with a single but Halladay was thrown out at the plate trying to score on the play to end the inning.
The score remained 1-0 until the fourth inning when SUNY Oneonta finally cracked the scoreboard after a pair of walks to start the inning was followed by a sacrifice bunt and then a run-scoring single.
Brockport took the lead in the sixth inning when Halladay hit an infield single to the shortstop. Lisa Slocum (Groton, NY/Groton) was inserted as a pinch runner and was sacrificed to second by Szymanski. After Boyle struck out for the Golden Eagles, Becca Pringle (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) doubled down the right-field line to score Slocum with the go-ahead run.
In the seventh inning, Geer induced three consecutive fly balls with the final out coming on a diving catch in the right-center gap by centerfielder Nikki Odrobina (Depew, NY/Depew) to end the game.
