The College at Brockport Softball team dropped a 1-0 decision to SUNY Cortland on day three of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament on Saturday at Dragon Field in Cortland. The loss eliminated Brockport from the double-elimination tournament.

Cortland (39-5) scored in the top of the first inning with a leadoff triple and a sacrifice fly from the next batter for the only run of the game.

Brockport (28-11-1) starter Stephanie Geer (Binghamton, NY/Seton Catholic) tossed a complete game and worked out of a jam in the third inning when the Red Dragons loaded the bases with one out. The sophomore induced an infield pop out and then a ground out to third base to end the inning with three runners left on base.

In the fifth, Melissa Boyle (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) led off with a single and with one out, reached second on a failed fielder’s choice play with an error charged to the shortstop. Cortland pitcher Katie Finch then struck out Hollie Ary (Copake, NY/Taconic Hills) and then forced a groundout to the first baseman to end the inning.

Brockport was held to two hits with Kristina Wood (White Lake, NY/Pine Bush) and Boyle each contributing a hit. Geer allowed just four hits and struck out four batters for the Golden Eagles.
