Softball Eliminated from ECAC Tournament
Golden Eagles Lose to Alfred and RPI on Saturday May 9, 2009
 Lindsay Szymanski leads Golden Eagles with three hits against RPI The College at Brockport Softball team dropped a 2-0 decision to Alfred University in the first game of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament Saturday at Union College in Schenectady, NY. The Golden Eagles then fell 3-1 to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in the second game of the day and was eliminated from the tournament. Brockport ends the season at 28-13-1.
In game one against Alfred, the Saxons scored a run in the fourth inning and then added an insurance run in the seventh inning for the 2-0 victory. Brockport was limited to five hits with Ona Halladay (Palmyra, NY/Mercy) leading the way with a pair of singles. Brockport threatened in the third, leaving two runners on base, and again in the fifth with another two runners left on. In the game, Brockport stranded seven runners.
In game two against RPI, Lindsay Szymanski (Cheektowaga, NY/John F. Kennedy) led the Brockport offense with three hits but Brockport had trouble scoring again, leaving nine runners on base including bases loaded in the both the fourth and fifth innings.
RPI took an early lead with a run in the top of the first inning and then made it a 3-0 lead with two runs in the third inning. In the fifth inning, Brockport cut the lead to 3-1 as the Golden Eagles loaded the bases when Kristina Wood (White Lake, NY/Pine Bush) reached on a fielder’s choice, followed by a walk issued to Halladay and a single up the middle by Szymanski. The next batter, Melissa Boyle (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) was hit by a pitch to force in the only run of the game for Brockport.
Stephanie Geer (Binghamton, NY/ Seton Catholic) and Kelly Briscoe (Stuyvesant, NY/Ichabod Crane) each pitched complete games for Brockport with each recording seven strikeouts.
