Assistant Athletic Director Mark Rowland

OFFICE: B209 Tuttle North Athletic Complex
PHONE: (585) 395-5329
E-MAIL: mrowland@brockport.edu

Mark Rowland stepped down as head baseball coach in July of 2007 in order to concentrate on his duties as Assistant Athletic Director, an administrative position he has held in conjunction with his coaching responsibilities for the past 11 years. Rowland has taken on a more visible role within the Office of Intercollegiate Athletics, which has included an increase in his administrative and supervisory duties.

He is the all-time winningest baseball coach at SUNY Brockport, finishing his coaching career with a record of 253-180-2 (.584). His teams reached the postseason nine times in 11 years, including appearances in the SUNYAC tournament in each of his final six seasons. Under Rowland, Brockport baseball enjoyed what was unquestionably the most successful season in the history of the program, as the Golden Eagles advanced to the 2004 College World Series and finished fifth in the nation. The 2004 team won a school-record 34 games and captured its first-ever SUNYAC and New York State Regional title. As a result of the efforts of Rowland and Justin Beach, who served as an assistant coach for four years and took over the coaching reigns once Rowland stepped down, Brockport baseball is now considered one of the elite Division III programs in the country.

Rowland first joined the athletic department as a graduate assistant in the summer of 1993 and assumed numerous positions – including Assistant Sports Information Director, Director of Advertising Sales, and Events Coordinator – while earning his master’s degree in Athletic Administration. Since taking over as Assistant Athletic Director in December of 1995, he has taken over, at one time or another, a wide range of responsibilities within the athletic department, such as box office coordinator, officials’ liaison, work study supervisor, home event manager, scheduling coordinator, and tournament director for various post-season championships.

In addition to his administrative and coaching duties, Rowland served as the New York Region representative on the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Division III All-America selection committee from 2000-2007 and the NCAA baseball championship selection committee from 1998-2001. He has appeared as a guest speaker at numerous coaching clinics and baseball-related events throughout New York State, including the State American Legion Championships (1997), Northeast Baseball Coaches Clinic (2002), Western New York Baseball Coaches Clinic (2005), and the College Select Baseball Recruiting Showcase (2006), as well as the Rochester BOCES Coaching Certification Program every year since 1998. He is currently on the College’s programming committee and the Athletic Hall of Fame selection committee.

Rowland is a 1993 graduate of Lafayette College, located in Easton, Pennsylvania, where he earned his degree in Anthropology and Sociology. He enjoyed a standout baseball career at the Division I school after earning all-state honors in both baseball and basketball at General McLane High School in Edinboro, PA. In 1999, Rowland was inducted to General McLane’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

Rowland currently resides in Brockport with his wife, Sandy, and his daughters, Allison and Megan.
