Swimming & Diving Sweeps Season Opener
Brockport Men and Women both defeat Wells to open the 2008-09 season Complete Results October 30, 2008
 Rob Cornish wins three distance events for Brockport(credit: Michael Pratt, MLPhoto) Sophomore Nicole Morgan (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island), senior Catie Swartz (Auburn, NY/Auburn) and sophomore Jen Conklin (Watkins Glen, NY/Watkins Glen) won two individual events each and were all part of two winning relays to lead The College at Brockport Women’s Swimming & Diving team to a season-opening victory over Wells College Thursday afternoon in the James B. Fulton Natatorium in Brockport. The Brockport Men’s team also won as sophomore Rob Cornish (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) and senior Vince Lossowski (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) each won three events for the Golden Eagles. The Brockport men prevailed by a score of 99-56 while the women posted a 112-106 victory.
The Brockport women (1-0) opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay as Morgan, Swartz, Conklin and sophomore Karin Davis (Castile, NY/Letchworth) posted a 2:03.38 for the winning time. Morgan added victories in the 200-yard freestyle and had the best time in the 100-yard backstroke. Swartz was the first-place finisher in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events and Conklin was the top finisher in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard breaststroke. The relay quartet also teamed to post the best time in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Freshman Janey Barrett (Avon, NY/Avon) won both the distance events with the top times in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle races.
For the men (1-0), Lossowski teamed with senior Wells Crawley (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili), sophomore Josh Atzrott (Cheektowaga, NY/Cleveland) and freshman Chris O’Connell (Long Island, NY/Sachem North) for a first place finish in the opening 200 medley relay. Lossowski added wins in the 200-yard individual medley as well as the 100-yard backstroke. Cornish was the top swimmer in three freestyle races with first-place finishes in the 200, 500 and 1,000-yard events. Cornish swam a personal best in the 1,000 with a time of 10:42.50 and came back to swim a 1:55.26 winning time in the 200 which was the very next race on the schedule.
