Freestylers Lead Men’s Swimming

Sophomore Rob Cornish (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) won the 1,650 and 500-yard freestyle distance events and freshman Cody Burns (King Ferry, NY/Southern Cayuga) took first in the 50-yard free, while sophomore Josh Atzrott (Cheektowaga, NY/Cleveland) won the 200 free to lead The College at Brockport Men’s Swimming & Diving team against SUNY Oswego. The Lakers won both the men’s and women’s competition on the night with a 163-117 win for the women and a 158-132 win for the men Friday night in the James B. Fulton Natatorium in Brockport.

Cornish edged out an Oswego swimmer in the 1,650-yard race with a time of 17:31.19, winning by just under a full second, and then won by nearly the same margin in the 500 free with a time of 5:05.42.

Burns was the fastest sprinter in the pool with a time of 23.27 seconds over 50 yards and Atzrott took first in the 200 with a winning time of 1:54.66. Junior Nathan Butler (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) took first in both the 100 and 200-yard backstoke events for Brockport.

The Brockport women won the 200-yard backstroke as sophomore Nicole Morgan (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) completed a 2:22.81 for a victory. Maria Quagliana (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) won the three-meter diving with a score of 236.7.
