Sophomore diver Maria Quagliana (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) recorded a pair of impressive performances in the one- and three-meter diving events, falling just shy of the NCAA Championship qualifying standards, as The College at Brockport Swimming & Diving squads dropped both the men’s and women’s meets against SUNY Fredonia Wednesday night in Fredonia.

The Brockport Men (4-3) and Women (3-4) posted 22 individual season-bests in the meet despite winning just two events on the evening. Rob Cornish (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) earned a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle event in 5:05.44, and the women's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Laura Popielski (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West), Nicole Morgan (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island), Karin Davis (Castile, NY/Letchworth) and Catie Swartz (Auburn, NY/Auburn) posted a win with a time of 3:55.68.

The closest race of the night was the men's 50 freestyle as Brockport’s Cody Burns (King Ferry, NY/Southern Cayuga) finished between Fredonia swimmers as all three touched the wall within a tenth of a second. Burns finished in 23.17 seconds, good for second place.

In all, 13 individuals and relays recorded second-place finishes for the Golden Eagles. Swartz took second in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle sprint races. Burns finished second in the 50 freestyle and Josh Atzrott (Cheektowaga, NY/Cleveland) was the runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle.

Quagliana took second in both the and diving events, finishing 1.3 points away from NCAA Championship qualifying standard on the one-meter board and then following that performance with a 252.45 on three-meter,which is less than three points shy of the qualifying standard for that event.
