Swimming & Diving Sweeps Buffalo State on Senior Day
Rob Cornish wins three freestyle events for the Golden Eagles February 1, 2009
 Brockport seniors with the coaching staff(credit: Michael Pratt, MLPhoto) Sophomore Rob Cornish (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) won the 1,650, the 500 and the 200-yard freestyle races to lead The College at Brockport Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving squads to a sweep of Buffalo State Saturday afternoon for senior day at the James B. Fulton Natatorium in Brockport.
The men’s team won by a score of 136-102 and the women posted a 151.5-77.5 victory over the Bengals.
Cornish won the 1,650-yard endurance race by over a minute with a time of 17:13.75, shaving nearly 30 seconds off his best time of the year in the event. He won the 500 by 13 seconds and posted a two-second margin of victory in the 200 with a winning time of 1:51.41. Other winners for the Brockport men (6-3) included senior Vince Lossowski (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) who won the 400-yard individual medley, Cody Burns (King Ferry, NY/Southern Cayuga) who posted a win in the 100-yard freestyle, Nathan Butler (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) with a victory in the 100 backstroke, and Dan Brigano (Utica, NY/Utica-Proctor) who posted wins in both the one and three-meter diving events.
For the Brockport women (4-5), Nicole Morgan (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) won the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke while senior Catie Swartz (Auburn, NY/Auburn) took first in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle sprints. Janey Barrett (Avon, NY/Avon) took the 1,650 and 500-yard freestyle races and Jen Conklin (Watkins Glen, NY/Watkins Glen) was the top finisher in both the 400 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke events.
Sophomore Maria Quagliana (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) also won both the one and three-meter diving events for the Golden Eagles. Karin Davis (Castile, NY/Letchworth) was the winner in the 100-yard butterfly for Brockport.
