Swimming & Diving Opens Season at SUNY Geneseo

Senior Dan Brigano (Utica, NY/Utica-Proctor) took first place in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events and junior Rob Cornish (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) was the top finisher in the 500 yard freestyle race to lead The College at Brockport Men’s Swimming & Diving team to a third-place finish at the season-opening SUNY Geneseo Invitational meet Saturday in Geneseo. The Brockport Women’s Swimming & Diving team also finished third at the meet with junior Maria Quagliana (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) taking second place in both the diving competitions for the Golden Eagles.

Brigano scored 226.80 in the one-meter competition and had a 253.45 score on the three-meter board for Brockport. Sophomore Chris Austin (Middlesex, NY/Naples) was second in the three-meter event with a 237.10 score. Cornish was first in the 500 freestyle, finishing in a time of 5:09.21, and also took third place in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:35.31.

On the women’s side, Quagliana scored 211.90 on the one-meter board and 219.50 in three-meter to lead Brockport. Junior Nicole Morgan (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) was third in the 200 freestyle (2:08.97), freshman Eva Lankes (Amherst, NY/Amherst) was third in the 100 backstroke (1:08.36), senior Jen Conklin (Watkins Glen, NY/Watkins Glen) took third in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.32) and the 400 freestyle relay of Conklin, Mandi Caldwell (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Wheatfield), Sarah Eisenmenger (North Rose, NY/North Rose-Wolcott) and Christina DiGiorgio (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) also finished third.

For the men, Nathan Butler (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) finished third in the 100 backstroke (57.41).
