Senior Lindsay Willeford (Fairport, NY/Denison (TX)) won her first two matches Friday and her two matches on Saturday to advance to the semifinal round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (UTA) Regional Championships at William Smith College. In the semifinal, Willeford dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Lia Weiner from the University of Rochester on Sunday.

Willeford defeated Ithaca College’s Natalie Jenereski 6-3, 6-2, in her opening match and then dominated Kendra Appleheimer from Stevens Institute with a 6-0, 6-0 score on Friday. She then downed Haley Kutner from TCNJ by a 6-3, 6-4 count and then won a close 7-6 first set against Evgenyika Kim from Hunter College. The second set was tied at 6-6 before Kim retired from the match with an injury default.

Three additional Brockport players qualified for singles competition but dropped their first round singles matches. Kristen Hemingway (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) lost a singles match for the first time this year losing a 7-5, 6-2 decision to Skidmore’s Allie Burns in her first round match. Erin McLaughlin (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) lost her first match to Hamilton College’s Laura Brantly 6-4, 6-2, and Katie Keller (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Monica Caluncagin from Hunter College in the first round.

In the consolation bracket for singles, Hemingway rebounded with an 8-2 decision over NYU’s Lisa Mijovic to stay alive in the competition. She then defeated Jamei Bow from Rochester by an 8-1 score and St. Lawrence University's Casey Gilman 8-6 to finish among the top four in the consolation bracket. McLaughlin and Keller both dropped second-round matches and were eliminated from the singles competition.

In doubles play, Hemingway and Willeford won the first two matches to advance to the quarterfinals of the draw. The Brockport duo won an 8-5 victory over the Ithaca College doubles team of Alyssa Jaffe and Devra Reiman and then upended the top-seeded doubles team of Laura Attley and Danika Robinson from Skidmore College by the same 8-5 score to advance to the quarterfinals. They fell by an 8-5 score to the doubles pair from TCNJ on Saturday.

The doubles team of McLaughlin and Keller won their first match – an 8-3 decision over Nazareth College’s Jessica Faber and Sherrita Wilkins – but lost in the second round to the No. 2 seeded Kutner and Christie Pollin from The College of New Jersey.
