Tennis Defeats Keuka College for First Win of 2009

Seniors Erin McLaughlin (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) and Katie Keller (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg), sophomore Kaitlyn Broderick (Bohemia, NY/Connetqout) and freshman Carolyn McMeneman (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) each won two matches to lead The College at Brockport Tennis team to an 8-1 victory over Keuka College Thursday in a non-conference match in Keuka. The win was the first of the season for the Golden Eagles (1-5). Keuka dropped to 0-1 with the loss.

McLaughlin won at second singles with a 6-1, 6-0 straight-sets victory and teamed with Keller (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) for an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles. Keller posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles. Broderick won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and was paired with McMenemen for a close 9-7 victory at first doubles. McMenemen won 6-2, 6-1 at fifth singles for the Golden Eagles.

Brockport also won at No. 6 singles as Kelsey Spinks (Hammondsport, NY/Hammondsport) won a 6-0, 6-3 match. Freshman Katelyn Richenberg (Stafford, NY/Batavia) paired with junior Dana Schulte (Batavia, NY/Batavia) for an 8-1 win at second doubles.

Megan McGowan (Batavia, NY/Batavia) was the lone winner for Keuka with a 6-2, 6-2 win at first singles.
