Junior Heather Carroll (Windsor, NY/Windsor) registered a team-high eight kills and three service aces to lead The College at Brockport Volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep over Alfred University Tuesday night in the 2009 home opener in the Tuttle South Gymnasium on the campus of Brockport.

The Golden Eagles (4-2) won games by scores of 25-14, 25-19, and 25-18 en route to the 3-0 victory over the Saxons (0-3). It is the fifth consecutive match-up against Alfred that Brockport has swept the match.

Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown) and Mary Cocking (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergon) each added five kills and Fitchette tallied six blocks and three aces. Senior Amanda Yachetta (Falconer, NY/Falconer) had 19 assists in two sets while Breanna Horton (Owego, NY/Owego) dished out ten helpers in the third set and Melissa Maxwell (Batavia, NY/Batavia) collected nine digs.

Brockport dominated game one, taking an early 9-2 lead and never looked back.

The Golden Eagles trailed by as many as four points in the second game but came back to tie the game at 15-15 before Fitchette served a five-point run including three service aces to secure the lead.

In game three, Brockport led 11-9 and won seven of the next ten points for an 18-12 advantage. Alfred rallied to cut the lead to 20-17 before the Golden Eagles served four straight points and won the match on a Saxon service error.

The Golden Eagles return to the court this weekend at the Ithaca Invitational when they face St. John Fisher and RIT on Friday.
