Senior middle hitter Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown) tallied a season-high 19 kills Tuesday night against Nazareth but it wasn’t enough as the The College at Brockport lost 3-1 to the Golden Flyers. Brockport (6-10) fell by scores of 25-16, 25-23, 12-25 and 25-21.

Sophomore Kelly Nowak (Orchard Park, NY/Sacred Heart) finished with eight kills and nine digs and senior Amanda Yachetta (Falconer, NY/Falconer) dished out 33 assists and 10 digs.

Brockport trailed 16-11 in the first set and battled to within two points at 17-15 before Nazareth used an 8-1 run to end the game, thanks in part to three consecutive service aces.

In game two, Brockport led by six points at 16-10 before the Golden Flyers battled back to tie the game at 18-18. It was back and forth scoring, until Nazareth earned a point on a Brockport error and a service ace to take a two point lead. The Golden Flyers sealed the win on a kill by Liz Towne.

The Golden Eagles soared to a 25-12 win in the third set. Fitchette registered seven of her kills in the set and Nowak served twelve times to pace the attack.

Brockport took an early 8-3 lead in the final set but couldn’t hold on as the score was tied five different times with the last one coming at 19-19. Nazareth led 23-21 and finished the game on a kill and a block.

Brockport totaled seven more kills than Nazareth; however the Golden Flyers recorded 14 service aces to earn their seventh consecutive win over the Golden Eagles.

The Golden Eagles return to the court this weekend as they host the first round of SUNYAC Pool Play on September 25-26.
