Brockport Wins Two on Day One of Volleyball Pool Play
Fitchette and Carroll lead Golden Eagles

The College at Brockport Volleyball team went 2-0 on the first day of SUNYAC Pool Play with a 3-0 win over Oswego and a 3-1 win over Geneseo Friday night in the Tuttle South Gymnasium.

Brockport defeated Oswego by scores of 25-12, 25-16, and 25-18, and was led by Heather Carroll (Windsor, NY/Windsor) with eight kills and five service aces. Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown) finished with six kills and Amanda Yachetta (Falconer, NY/Falconer) handed out 18 assists.

The Golden Eagles took an early 9-3 lead in the first set, which included three consecutive aces by Carroll. Brockport was leading, 17-11, before ending the game on an 8-1 run. The second set was tied seven times with the last one at 12-12 until Brockport scored 13 of the next 17 points for a 2-0 set lead. In the final set, Brockport never trailed as the closest Oswego could come was 11-9.

Fitchette and Carroll led Brockport with 18 and 15 kills, respectively in the 3-1 win over Geneseo by scores of 25-21, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19. Kristi Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) chipped in with 12 kills and Yachetta dished out 40 assists.

Brockport trailed 10-13 before rallying behind the serving of Alex Stribing (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) to take a 15-14 lead and gain some momentum to win the first set. Geneseo led 16-9 before the Golden Eagles once again rallied behind Stribing to pull to within two at 17-15. Brockport tied the game at 23-23 before the Knights earned a kill and took advantage of an attacking error by Brockport. The Golden Eagles never trailed in the third set. The final set was tied, 17-17, before Stribing served up six consecutive points en route to the 25-19 final.

The Golden Eagles (8-10) take on Buffalo State at 10 am and Fredonia at 2 pm tomorrow.
