Volleyball Wins Two Matches at Nazareth Invitational

 Alyssa Fitchette earned All-Tournament honors at the Nazareth Invitational(credit: Michael Pratt, MLPhoto) Senior Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown) recorded a career-high 26 kills in a five-game loss to SUNY Geneseo Friday night and The College at Brockport Volleyball team lost a three-game match to host Nazareth College but rebounded for a pair of wins Saturday over SUNY Cobleskill and Keuka College to finish 2-2 at the Nazareth Invitational.
Brockport (17-20 overall) lost a heartbreaking five-game match to Geneseo to start the tournament Friday night as the Knights won the first game, 25-19, before Brockport came back to post consecutive victories in the next two games (25-13 and 25-21). Geneseo took a 25-14 decision in game four and then posted a 15-12 win in the tie-breaker.
Against Nazareth, Brockport fell in three games – 25-19, 25-17 and 25-20.
On Saturday, the Golden Eagles posted a pair of three-game victories with a 25-19, 25-17 and 25-11 win over SUNY Cobleskill and a 25-15, 25-10 and 25-15 win over Keuka to finish the tournament.
Fitchette had 26 kills, nine digs and four blocks in the loss to Geneseo while Amanda Yachetta (Falconer, NY/Falconer) handed out 41 assists and Melissa Maxwell (Batavia, NY/Batavia) recorded 12 digs.
In the loss to Nazareth, Fitchette had a team-leading seven kills and Maxwell was credited with eight digs.
On Saturday, Tricia Masten (Henrietta, NY/Aquinas) and Mary Cocking (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) each had six kills, Breanna Horton (Owego, NY/Owego) had 16 assists, and Kelly Maloney (Honeoye, NY/Honeoye) led the way with 14 digs against Cobleskill.
In the Keuka win, Heather Carroll (Windsor, NY/Windsor) had eight kills and Yachetta led the team with 23 assists while Alex Stribing (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) and Maxwell each had nine digs. Stribing also led the Golden Eagles with six service aces.
