Volleyball Defeats RIT for Third Straight Win
Seniors Pace Golden Eagles on Senior Night October 13, 2009
 Brockport produced a 3-1 win over RIT on Senior Night(credit: Michael Pratt, MLPhoto) Senior Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown) tallied 20 kills and 22 digs, senior Amanda Yachetta (Falconer, NY/Falconer) dished out 41 assists and senior Andrea Pollok (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) added five aces to lead The College at Brockport volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over RIT Tuesday night in the final regular season home match for the Golden Eagles.
Brockport (13-12) lost the first set 22-25 before winning the next three by scores of 25-15, 25-17, and 25-22. The Golden Eagles have now posted three consecutive wins and have won seven of their last night matches.
The Golden Eagles trailed early in the first game 6-11 and never recovered. In the second set the score was tied 11-11 before Brockport scored nine of the next ten points to take the 20-12 lead. Brockport trailed by four points in the third game but came back from a 4-8 deficit to lead 11-9 with sophomore Kelly Nowak (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) serving during the run, including two aces. The Golden Eagles then took control and scored nine of the next 11 points en route to the 25-17 final. In the final set, Brockport led 17-10 before RIT battled to within two points at 21-19 but the Golden Eagles held on and secured the win with a final kill by Fitchette to end the match.
Brockport totaled 49 kills on the night to RIT’s 30 as part of the ‘Kills for a Cure’ campaign. Fans could make a flat donation or make a pledge to sponsor an athlete, a team or both teams for the amount of kills they tally on the night. All proceeds will benefit CURE Childhood Cancer Association; a nationally recognized innovator in peer support for families with children diagnosed with cancer or blood disorders.
The Golden Eagles return to the court on Saturday Oct. 17 when they face Skidmore and Ramapo University at Sage College.
