Brockport (10-8 overall, 5-4 SUNYAC) trailed 19-4 in the first seven minutes of the game before a pair of three-point baskets by sophomore Sarah Bushey (Utica, NY/Utica Notre Dame) closed the gap. The Golden Eagles still trailed by 13 points with less than two minutes to play in the half but three straight baskets by senior Brenlyn Campbell (Williamsville, NY/Lewiston-Porter) to end the half trimmed the deficit to just seven at 34-27.
In the second half, Smith opened with a three-pointer and then hit a pair of free throws to narrow the Geneseo (5-14, 2-8) lead to a single basket at 34-32. The teams traded buckets over the next 10 minutes before a layup by senior Molly Brewer (Lockport, NY/Lockport) tied the game at 44-44 with eight minutes left to play. The Brewer basket was in the middle of a 20-4 run by Brockport as the Golden Eagles took an eight-point lead at 54-46 with 3:46 remaining.
Junior Kristina Wood (White Lake, NY/Pine Bush) hit a pair of baskets and senior Jen Buskus (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) added a pair of free throws to seal the victory for Brockport.
Smith finished with 14 points while Bushey came off the bench for 12. Campbell added 11 and Buskus chipped in nine points and five assists for the Golden Eagles. Bushey was 4-of-7 from three-point range and Rachel Csakany (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) led Brockport with eight rebounds.
