Freshman Rachel Csakany (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) scored 14 points and junior Whitney Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) added 13 points to lead The College at Brockport Women’s Basketball team to a 58-45 victory over SUNY Fredonia in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game Friday night at Tuttle North Gymnasium in Brockport.

Csakany scored 10 points in the second half including a layup with six minutes elapsed in the half to give the Golden Eagles (11-8 overall, 6-4 SUNYAC) a 16-point lead. Six minutes later a free throw by sophomore Sarah Bushey (Utica, NY/Utica Notre Dame) pushed the Brockport lead to 19 points for its largest lead of the game as the Golden Eagles cruised to the victory.

It is the third straight win for the Golden Eagles and fifth in the last seven games, all of which have come within SUNYAC play.

In the first half, Brockport held a one-point lead with 14 minutes to play in the half before going on a 9-0 run which led to a 27-19 halftime lead. In the second half, Fredonia (8-13, 2-11) cut the lead to seven points at 29-22 but Brockport scored 10 of the next 12 points to regain the advantage, providing the 16-point lead on Csakany’s lay up with 14 minutes remaining.

Csakany led the scoring with her career-high 14 while Smith chipped in 13 points. Senior Jen Buskus (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) scored nine points and handed out five assists.
