Women’s Basketball Scores Early for Victory over Buffalo State

 Brenlyn Campbell scored 17 points for Brockport against Buffalo State(credit: Michael Pratt, MLPhoto) Junior Whitney Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and senior Brenlyn Campbell (Williamsville, NY/Lewiston-Porter) scored 17 points each to lead The College at Brockport Women’s Basketball team to a convincing 64-49 victory over Buffalo State in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game Tuesday night at the Tuttle North Gymnasium in Brockport.
Smith connected on all three of her three-point attempts in the first half and had 15 points in the opening period as Brockport (13-8 overall, 8-4 SUNYAC) built an early 12-point lead and used a 20-7 run midway through the first half to open up a 25-point margin at 38-13 with 6:04 left in the half.
Brockport led 43-26 at the halftime intermission but regained the 20-point margin early in the second half and held that advantage until late in the game when Buffalo State (5-16, 4-8) scored 11 of the final 13 points to narrow the gap.
Smith and Campbell each reached double figures in the first half with Smith scoring 15 and Campbell adding 10. Each player finished with 17 points. Campbell added a team-high eight rebounds while senior Jen Buskus (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) handed out six assists and had four steals.
