Junior Whitney Smith (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) scored 15 of her game-high 22 points in the second half to lead The College at Brockport Women’s Basketball team to a 68-58 victory over SUNY Morrisville in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game Tuesday night in Morrisville.

The victory clinches at least a top-four finish in the final regular-season conference standings, assuring a first-round home game for the Golden Eagles in the SUNYAC tournament. The playoff game will be held at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 24, in Tuttle North Gym. The opponent has yet to be determined.

Against Morrisville, Smith connected on 6-of-8 three-pointers including one to give Brockport (15-8 overall, 10-4 SUNYAC) a 22-point lead with 5:30 left in the second half. Morrisville (2-21, 0-15) scored 14 of the game’s final 16 points to close the gap.

The win was Brockport’s seventh consecutive victory and ninth win in the last 11 games since the Chase Tournament in mid January.

Smith led the way with 22 points as three Golden Eagles reached double figures in scoring. Senior Brenlyn Campbell (Williamsville, NY/Lewiston-Porter) scored 14 points and senior Jen Buskus (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) added 10 points and 10 assists. Buskus now has 132 assists on the season, which is two shy of the fifth spot on the all-time Brockport list and is 18 assists away from the No. 2 position held by Ashley Broadhurst.

Freshman Rachel Csakany (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) grabbed a team-leading 12 rebounds and also contributed four assists.
