Senior Brenlyn Campbell (Williamsville, NY/Lewiston-Porter) scored a game-high 20 points and also recorded 10 rebounds in a losing effort for The College at Brockport Women’s Basketball team. The Golden Eagles dropped a 65-59 decision to Cortland in a State University of New York Athletic Conference game (SUNYAC) Friday night in Tuttle North Gymnasium in Brockport. The Red Dragons are atop the conference standings and will be the number-one seed in the upcoming SUNYAC Tournament.

Freshman Rachel Csakany (Schenectady, NY/ Schenectady) chipped in 17 points to help Brockport (15-9 overall, 10-5 SUNYAC) pull within three points twice with under a minute remaining in the game. The last basket came off an offensive rebound and put-back after a missed three-point shot.

Cortland (21-3, 14-1) missed three free throws in the last minute of play to give Brockport a chance to narrow the lead. Unfortunately Brockport was unable to pull closer than a three-point differential.

Brockport started the game off slow, going down by as many as 11 points before good ball movement got the majority of the team involved and helped to even the score, 25-25, with three minutes remaining in the first half. Whitney Smith (Webster, NY/ Webster-Thomas) took a pass from Jen Buskus (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and buried the three to deadlock the contest. Campbell proceeded to score six of Brockport’s next eight points to give the Golden Eagles a 33-29 halftime lead.

Campbell also finished the game with a total of five blocks, while Buskus chipped in seven assists. Jennifer Patten and Jessica Laing each scored 16 points for the Cortland Red Dragons.
