Graduate student Julia Decker (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) and freshman Carly Motondo (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) scored four goals each for The College at Brockport Women’s Lacrosse team as the Golden Eagles battled back from a seven-goal deficit in the second half before losing 18-14 to the University of Rochester Tuesday afternoon at Edwin Fauver Stadium in Rochester.

Brockport (0-3) led 3-2 early in the game with Decker feeding Karen Bianchi (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) with 22 minutes to play in the first half. Rochester (3-2) answered with seven consecutive goals over the next 18 minutes to take a 9-3 advantage. Motondo scored her first goal of the game to stop the streak and junior Melissa Hill (Rochester, NY/Brighton) scored with 1:39 left in the half to cut the lead to 9-5. The Yellowjackets added a late goal to take a 10-5 lead into the halftime intermission.

In the second half, Decker scored her second of the game to shave the lead to 10-6 but Rochester scored the next five goals for a 15-6 lead, marking its biggest advantage of the game. Motondo scored at 23:02 to spark an 8-1 scoring run for the Golden Eagles. Motondo scored three times in the run and Decker added two goals as Brockport closed to within a pair of goals at 16-14 with 6:38 to play.

Rochester slowed the offense down and scored twice late in the game for the final score.
