Junior Abby Smith (Mexico, NY/Mexico) broke a scoreless tie in the 50th minute of play to give The College at Brockport Women’s Soccer team a 1-0 victory over visiting St. John Fisher College Sunday afternoon at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field.

Senior Nicole Gibaud (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) took the ball deep into the left corner and crossed it to Jess Bush (Dryden, NY/Dryden), who sent it out to the top of the box where it was deflected to Smith. Smith one-touched the ball over Cardinal goalkeeper Ashley Martin for her first goal of the season.

The Cardinals applied offensive pressure late in the game but the Golden Eagle defensive unit and goalkeeper Erin Asquith (Arcade, NY/Pioneer) held strong, making four saves to post the shutout.

Brockport outshot St. John Fisher 22-6 on the day and held a 6-1 advantage on corner kicks.
