Women’s Soccer Downs Oneonta with 2-0 Win

 Erin Asquith records another shutout with a 2-0 win over Oneonta(credit: Michael Pratt, MLPhoto) Senior Jessica VanAllen (Chatham, NY/Chatham) scored one goal and assisted on another while Michelle Gibaud (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) scored to lead The College at Brockport Women’s Soccer team to a huge 2-0 victory over SUNY Oneonta in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game Saturday on A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field in Brockport.
The win for Brockport (7-1-2 overall, 3-0-1) extended its unbeaten streak to nine games (7-0-2) and moved the Golden Eagles into sole possession of first place in the SUNYAC standings. The Golden Eagles defeated the Red Dragons for the first time since a 2-1 victory in 1998.
Gibaud opened the scoring with her third goal of the season on an assist from VanAllen in the 22nd minute, and the score remained 1-0 through the rest of the first half. In the second half, VanAllen took a pass from Abby Smith (Mexico, NY/Mexico) and scored her team-leading sixth goal of the year to push the Golden Eagle lead to 2-0.
Erin Asquith (Arcade, NY/Pioneer) recorded eight saves including five in the second half to post her fourth shutout of the season. The shutout was the second straight for Asquith and the Golden Eagles who have not allowed a goal in 189 minutes of action and have not allowed more than a single goal in a game since a season-opening 3-0 loss to Rochester. Since the loss, Brockport has outscored opponents 24-4.
