Senior Jessica VanAllen (Chatham, NY/Chatham) scored midway through the second half to knot the score at 1-1 as The College at Brockport Women’s Soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to 11 games in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game against SUNY Oswego Friday on A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field in Brockport. The contest ended in a tie after two scoreless overtime periods.

Oswego (6-7-1 overall, 2-3-1 SUNYAC) scored early in the contest on a breakaway shot within 10 yards from the goal for a 1-0 lead just two minutes into the contest.

The score remained 1-0 for the first half despite Brockport (8-1-3, 4-0-2) holding a 9-3 advantage in shots. One of those shots came off the foot of junior Abby Smith (Mexico, NY/Mexico) as she lofted a ball over the head and outstretched hands of the Laker goalie only to see the ball deflect off the cross bar.

In the second half, Brockport continued the offensive pressure, holding a 15-4 shots advantage but the Golden Eagles were held scoreless until Jess Bush (Dryden, NY/Dryden) made a short crossing pass to the foot of VanAllen who sent a ball over the head of the Oswego goalie and into the back of the net from 18 yards out to tie the score.

In overtime, both teams had scoring opportunities, including a direct kick awarded to Brockport inches outside the 18-yard box. VanAllen fired a shot at the goal but it was deflected by one of the defenders in the wall to preserve the tie.

Officially, the game ends in a tie but according to SUNYAC tie-breaker rules, a shootout is conducted in order to break a tie in the conference standings if necessary at the end of the regular season. In the shootout, Oswego scored on its first attempt but Brockport battled back for a 3-3 tie after the first five shooters as Smith, Rachel Murphy (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) and Nicole Gibaud (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) each scored for the Golden Eagles. A sixth shot was taken and after Oswego missed its shot over the top of the goal, Bush scored into the right side of the net for the 4-3 shootout victory.
