Women’s Soccer Upset by Cortland in SUNYAC Tournament
Golden Eagles 1-0 in SUNYAC Quarterfinal game
October 31, 2009
The College at Brockport Women’s Soccer team ended its State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNAYC) Championship hopes as the #6-seeded SUNY Cortland Red Dragons beat the #3-seeded Golden Eagles, 1-0, in a SUNYAC Tournament quarterfinal match in Brockport.

With just 16 seconds remaining in the first half, Cortland (12-4-2 overall) scored as Bridgette DeSantis crossed the ball from the corner into the 18-yard box. After deflecting off a couple Golden Eagle defenders, Carly Williams struck the ball from the top of the 18 past a diving Erin Asquith (Arcade, NY/Pioneer) into the lower left corner of the goal.

Brockport (10-4-3) had its best scoring chance with 18 seconds remaining in the second half as the Golden Eagles were awarded a direct kick just outside the 18-yard box in the Cortland end of the field. Senior Rachel Murphy (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) took a direct kick that soared past the right upper corner.

Brockport held the edge in shots with a 15-11 advantage and had five corner kicks to Cortland’s two.
