Oklahoma Wins Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Tournament
Golden Eagles finish eighth with eight points November 8, 2008 Junior James Forsythe (Binghamton, NY/Harpursville) recorded a pair of pins in the consolation round of the 149-pound weight class for The College at Brockport Wrestling team as the Golden Eagles recorded eight points and finished eighth at the 10th Annual Brockport/Oklahoma Gold Wrestling Tournament Saturday at Tuttle North Gymnasium in Brockport.
Oklahoma won the tournament for the 10th straight year with 140 points. Edinboro University was second with 123 points, followed by Central Michigan with 113.5, Kent State with 108, Hofstra with 104, Army with 77 and Rutgers with 56.5.
After dropping the opening round match at 149 pounds to top-seeded Will Rowe from Oklahoma, Forsythe dropped into the consolation bracket and pinned teammate Troy Cunningham (Ogdensburg, NY/Ogdensburg Free Academy) in 1:32, and then pinned Army’s Jimmy Rafferty in 1:58 before bowing out of the tournament with a 17-9 loss to Jack Barrett from Rutgers.
At 174 pounds, senior Eric VanPatten (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) had an impressive 15-0 technical fall victory over Army’s Tim Dean in the consolation bracket before dropping a tough 6-4 overtime decision loss to Chris Estep from Kent State.
