Strong Start and Finish lead to Wrestling Victory
Brockport downs Lycoming in first dual of the season

Junior Glen DiStefano (Lackawanna, NY/Lackawanna) recorded a pin at 133 pounds and freshman Tom Voorhis (Chenango Forks, NY/Chenango Forks) won a major decision at 197 pounds to lead The College at Brockport Wrestling team to a 24-15 victory over Lycoming College Wednesday at the Tuttle North Gymnasium in Brockport in the first dual match of the season for the Golden Eagles.

Brockport (1-0) opened with an 11-6 decision at 125 pounds with junior Shawn Hainey (Brentwood, NY/Brentwood) giving the Golden Eagles a 3-0 lead. DiStefano followed with his pin at 3:42.

Lycoming (5-3) rebounded with an 11-8 decision at 141 and consecutive decisions at 149 and 157 that tied the score at 9-9.

Lycoming took its first lead of the night with a pin at 165 pounds to give the Warriors a 15-9 advantage before Brockport recovered to post victories in the final four matches for the victory.

Senior Eric VanPatten (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) earned a technical fall with a score of 21-4 at the 4:12 mark of the match to narrow the scoring gap to 15-14 before Josh Bloom (Manchester, NY/Geneva) took control of his match at 184 pounds in the third period and posted a 7-1 decision to give Brockport a 17-15 lead.

Voorhis broke open a close match in the second period with a near fall midway through the period to take a 9-3 lead and then added a takedown in the third period to finish off a 12-3 major decision and give the Golden Eagles a 21-15 lead.

Junior Jabril Patterson (Syracuse, NY/Adirondack) finished off the match with a slim 2-0 victory as he scored an escape in the first second of the second period and then recorded a final point with an advantage in riding time for the final score.
