Wrestling Takes Third at Virginia Duals
Golden Eagles defeat Roger Williams University in third-place match
January 10, 2009
Junior Jabril Paterson (Syracuse, NY/Adirondack) scored three victories Saturday to help The College at Brockport Wrestling team to a third-place finish at the Virginia Duals at the Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia.

Brockport dropped a 19-14 decision to Anderson College but rebounded to defeat The Apprentice School, 44-6, and came from behind to defeat Roger Williams, 23-16, in the third-place match.

The Golden Eagles (4-1), ranked #19 in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association (NCWA) Division III rankings, clinched a winning record with its four victories on the season and extends its streak of winning seasons to 47 years. It is the second-longest active streak in the country behind only Oklahoma State’s 48-year streak.

Patterson won a 9-2 decision in the loss to Anderson and added a 2-1 victory over Apprentice as well as a 3-0 overtime decision in the Roger Williams match to finish the day with a perfect 3-0 record. Against Roger Williams, Brockport trailed 16-15 with two matches remaining but freshman Tom Voorhis (Chenango Forks, NY/Chenango Forks) scored a 17-1 technical fall victory at 197 pounds and Patterson clinched the victory with his 3-0 overtime victory in the 285-pound weight class.

Junior Glen DiStefano (Lackawanna, NY/Lackawanna), sophomore Reece Mariacher (Elma, NY/Iroquois), senior Josh Lancaster (Silver Creek, NY/Silver Creek) and Voorhis were all 2-0 Saturday. DiStefano and Voorhis won matches by technical falls and pins while Mariacher and Lancaster each recorded pins in the 44-6 victory over Apprentice.
