Don Murray Earns Chancellor’s Award for Excellence
Head coach and educator earns award for faculty service May 5, 2009 Physical Education Professor and Wrestling Head Coach Don Murray has been selected as a State University of New York (SUNY) Chancellor’s Award for Excellence Award winner for Faculty Service for 2009. The awards, given annually, honor the administrators and staff at the different SUNY campuses for their dedication and accomplishments throughout their careers.
Murray will be honored, along with the other Chancellor’s Award winners from The College at Brockport at an awards dinner Friday, May 8.
Murray has not only acted as the successful head coach of the wrestling program at Brockport with five NCAA Division III National Championships and over 135 All-American awards, but has also put together a list of accomplishments in the areas of education, administration and service both on and off campus.
Murray has served numerous positions in the administration on campus and nationally with the USA Wrestling organization. He has worked closely with the United States Olympic teams as well as World Teams representing the United States in competitions around the world.
Currently, Murray is the Director of the Brockport Auxiliary Service Corporation (BASC) on the Brockport campus in addition to his duties as a full-time professor in the department of Physical Education and the Head Coach of the wrestling team.
He has been honored by several groups off campus for his tireless volunteer efforts and was most recently named the USA Wrestling University Person of the Year in 2007 and a finalist for the prestigious National Student-Athlete Day Grant Steps Award in 2008.
