Women Win Brockport Cross Country Invitational

 Kelsey Conn (left) and Lauren Mesi finish first and second at the Brockport Invitational(credit: Mark Krueger) Sophomore Kelsey Conn (Batavia, NY/Elba) finished first overall and senior teammate Lauren Mesi (East Aurora, NY/Clarence) finished less than a second later in second place to pace The College at Brockport Women’s Cross Country team, ranked No. 31 in the latest national rankings, to a first-place finish at the Brockport Invitational Saturday in Brockport. The Brockport Men’s Cross Country team took third place in the seven-team invitational race.
Conn clocked a 19:48.60 to take top honors in the women’s race and Mesi was a little less than a half second behind Conn to take second place. The Golden Eagles took five of the top seven spots in the finishing order for 21 team points and the victory. Sophomores Caitlin McAneney (Hornell, NY/Hornell) and Brittany Streeter (Oneida, NY/Oneida) finished in fifth and sixth places respectively, and freshman Jen Fasciano (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) was close behind in seventh place overall for Brockport.
In the women’s race, Brockport won with 21 points, followed by Hamilton (38), Rochester (100), SUNY Geneseo (131), SUNY New Paltz (137), SUNY Fredonia (141) and Buffalo State (176). In the men’s race, Rochester won with 34 points, followed by SUNY Fredonia (50), Brockport (68), Hamilton (103), SUNY Geneseo (106), Buffalo State (179) and SUNY New Paltz (183).
Rochester finished with five runners in the top 11 finishers for the team victory while Hamilton’s Peter Kosgei won the race in 15:42.40. The second place finisher, Tom Williams from SUNY Fredonia, was nearly 30 seconds behind Kosgei. Brockport senior Pete Manktelow (Hornell, NY/Hornell) was the top finisher for the Golden Eagles with a seventh-place finish in 16:24.60, and Matt Avery (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) finished ninth, three seconds behind Manktelow.
