Women's Cross Country has Two Top-10 Finishers

Senior Lauren Mesi (East Aurora, NY/Clarence) and sophomore Kelsey Conn (Batavia, NY/Elba) each finished among the top 10 runners to lead The College at Brockport Women’s Cross Country team to a fourth-place finish at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship meet Saturday at Letchworth State Park. The Brockport men took fifth place, led by a top-20 finish by sophomore Matt Avery (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili).

SUNY Cortland won the men’s championship with 22 points, followed by SUNY Geneseo (61 points), SUNY Plattsburgh (87), SUNY Fredonia (104) and Brockport with 151 points. Geneseo won the women’s championship with 26 points while Cortland took second with 47 points, followed by SUNY Plattsburgh (77), and Brockport was close behind with 79 points.

Mesi was the top Brockport finisher for the women, taking 8th place overall with a time of 23:00. Conn was close behind in 10th position seven seconds later. Sophomore Brittany Streeter (Oneida, NY/Oneida) was 18th in 23:33 and freshman Jen Fasciano (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) was 19th less than a second behind her teammate. Sophomore Caitlin McAneney (Hornell, NY/Hornell) was the final Brockport scoring runner with a 24th-place finish in 23:50.

Avery led the Brockport men with a time of 26:17 and a 20th-place finish followed by junior Pete Manktelow (Hornell, NY/Hornell) in 22nd place in 26:23. Seniors Doug Teed (Owego, NY/Newark Valley) finished 33rd (27:05) and Mike Cocquyt (Hilton, NY/Hilton) was 36th (27:12) and sophomore Mike Vrabel (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) was 40th (27:34).
