Cross Country Opens Season at Buffalo State Meet
Brittany Streeter leads the Brockport women with a fifth-place finish

Junior Brittany Streeter (Oneida, NY/Oneida) finished fifth overall in the women’s race to lead The College at Brockport Cross Country teams in the season-opening meet Saturday at Buffalo State in the annual Daniel Walker Invitational.

Streeter’s finish helped the Brockport women to a third-place finish with 70 points as SUNY Geneseo won the meet with 27 points, followed by Edinboro University, which took second with 57 points. The Golden Eagles finished ahead of SUNY Fredonia, Buffalo State and D’Youville in the women’s race.

Junior Matt Avery (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili), who took seventh place overall, was the top finisher for the Brockport men as the Golden Eagles finished fifth as a team. Edinboro won the men’s race, followed by SUNY Fredonia, SUNY Geneseo, and Mount Union. Buffalo State and D’Youville finished below Brockport in the team standings.

Streeter finished the women’s race in 19:26.49 while teammate Ashley Beyer (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) was 12th in 20:10.22.

Avery’s time was 26:58.83 while Ryan Gilmore (Auburn, NY/Auburn) took 24th place in 27:44.98.
