Women Win Brockport Cross Country Invitational
Matt Avery leads men to second-place finish

The cross country team hosted the 2009 Brockport Invitational on Saturday on the campus of The College at Brockport with the women’s team taking first place and the men finishing second.

The women finished with 28 points as the Golden Eagles had four runners finish in the top six. Junior Brittany Streeter (Oneida, NY/Oneida) paced Brockport with a second-place finish in 18:56, and Caitlin McAneney (Hornell, NY/Hornell) crossed third in 19:07. Lauren Mesi and Ashley Beyer took fifth and sixth, respectively, in 19:31 and 19:38. Geneseo’s “B” team took second with 44 points and Houghton College finished third with 74 points.

On the men’s side, junior Matt Avery (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) raced to a third-place finish over the five-kilometer course in a time of 15:54. Ryan Gilmore (Auburn, NY/Auburn) placed 10th in 16:26 and Brad Frink (Canastota, NY/Canastota) crossed 12th in 16:35. The Golden Eagles finished with 54 points as Geneseo won the Invite with 23 points.

The men’s and women’s cross country team will run next on Saturday, September 19th at the Blue Devil Invitational at SUNY Fredonia.
