Matt Avery Leads Brockport Cross Country at Hamilton
Both men’s and women’s teams take fourth at Hamilton College Invitational October 10, 2009 Junior Matt Avery (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) ran a 27:01.8 and finished fifth overall to lead The College at Brockport Men’s Cross Country team to a fourth-place finish Saturday at the Hamilton College Invitational meet in Hamilton. The Brockport women also finished fourth as a team and were led by freshman Ashley Beyer (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora), who completed the 5K course in 19:09.
Avery led the Brockport men as the top five scorers all finished within 1:15 over the sloppy 8K course. Ryan Gilmore (Auburn, NY/Auburn) was the second Brockport finisher with an eighth-place finish in 27:18.8, followed by Brad Frink (Canastota, NY/Canastota), Greg Selke (North Chili, NY/Churchville-Chili) and Josh Coon (Brockport, NY/Brockport) who finished in 20th, 22nd and 27th place, respectively.
Beyer led the women by crossing the finish line in a span of 1:21. Melissa Wassink (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) was the second Brockport finisher followed by Caitlin McAneney (Hornell, NY/Hornell), Jen Fasciano (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) and Katy Kohls (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca).
