Avery and Mesi Pace Cross Country at Inter-Regional Rumble
Women take fifth place and the men finish 11th

The College at Brockport men’s and women’s cross teams traveled to Ohio to compete in the 2009 Inter-Regional Rumble held at Oberlin College.

The Brockport women finished in fifth place out of 25 teams with 178 points, four points behind NYU. The Brockport men took 11th place out of 28 teams.

Senior Lauren Mesi (East Aurora, NY/Clarence) paced the women in the 216-competitor field with a 24th-place finish over the six kilometer course in 22:34. Sophomore Melissa Wassink (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) and junior Brittany Streeter (Oneida, NY/Oneida) were close behind in 22:43 and 22:47 respectively. Caitlin McAneney (Hornell, NY/Hornell) and Ashley Beyer (East Aurora, NY/East Aurora) completed the scoring five for the Golden Eagles.

Junior Matt Avery (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili ) once again led the Golden Eagles on the men’s side with a 22nd-place finish out of 243 runners in a time of 25:41. Ryan Gilmore (Auburn, NY/Auburn ) crossed the line in 26:04 for a 36th-place finish and Greg Selke (North Chili, NY/Churchville-Chili) ran a 26:54. Rounding out the top five were Josh Coon (Brockport, NY/Brockport) and Brad Frink (Canastota, NY/Canastota).

Brockport is off next weekend as they prepare for the SUNYAC Championships on Oct. 31st held at SUNY Cortland.
