JOB SEARCH COACHING & COUNSELING

BUSINESS CAREER PLANNING

To demonstrate that student success is at our highest priority, all business administration, marketing, and finance majors are required to take a career planning seminar (BUS 389) prior to graduation. The course provides all students with the tools and resources needed to obtain internships and/or jobs.

RESUME COLLECTIONS & NETWORKING EVENTS

  • Résumés are collected and sent to prospective employers for job and internship consideration
  • Job fairs & on-campus recruitment
  • Alumni networking and mentor program
  • Career events for students
  • Networking & Information Interviews (pdf) are a great way to learn about career fields and potential job/internship opportunities

INTERNSHIP INFORMATION

  • Business majors are encouraged to complete internships prior to graduation. In fact, 94 percent of newly hired graduates participated in an internship or co-op prior to graduation (NACE Experiential Education survey)
  • Internship search advisement - how to locate and obtain a skill buidling experience
  • BUS498 internship credit counts as an upper level business elective for either three or six credits

INTERVIEW PREPARATION

  • The business career specialist can teach you how to: answer interview questions, conduct company research, dress appropriately, create questions for the employer, and much more
  • Mock interviews, by appointment only, allow students to engage in a simulated interview situation - interviews can be taped upon request

GRADUATE SCHOOL ADVISING

  • Business & law school advising, including personal statements, graduate school selection, and testing information

CAREER SERVICES IN THE RAKOV CENTER

  • The main campus career center offers career services to all students and career paths. Three resources important to business students include: (1) JobShop, The College at Brockport's online job and internship posting system, (2) career counseling, and (3) an extensive career library

Please arrange an appointment with a counselor in Rakov to ensure you are taking advantage of all programs and services available to you.
