James J. Cordeiro, Ph.D.

Photo of Dr. James Cordeiro. Dr. James J. Cordeiro has a Ph.D. from SUNY-Buffalo, an M.B.A. from the University of Rochester, and a B.S. in Microbiology and Chemistry from the University of Bombay. He has also undertaken significant graduate study in philosophy and English at various universities around the world, and recently completed a certificate in International Business.

Dr. Cordeiro's research interests are in the application of financial and organizational economics to a range of management issues and problems. Although his primary research interests are in the area of corporate governance, his recent publications are in a range of academic journals such as the Corporate Reputation Review, Business Strategy & the Environment, Engineering Valuation & Cost Analysis, the International Review of Women & Leadership, and Best Papers Proceedings of the Academy of Management. In addition, he has published a number of conference proceedings and book chapters.

In recognition of his research in the corporate governance area, Dr. Cordeiro was elected a Fellow of the internationally-recognized Corporate Governance Center. Dr. Cordeiro has also served as reviewer for the prestigious Academy of Management Journal and Strategic Management Journal, and was recently nominated to the Executive Committee of the Business Policy and Strategy Division of the Academy of Management. He is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the Academy of Management, Financial Management Association, and the Society of Christian Philosophers.

Dr. Cordeiro has traveled widely in the United States, Asia and Europe and has presented his research at a number of national and international conferences. He is a keen guitarist, has published poetry and is an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills.

Dr. Cordeiro was a co-winner of the Rochester Poetry Prize (judged by Sherod Santos) in 2001. In 2004, Dr. Cordeiro received SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching.
