Current NewsCareer Connection Event a Huge Hit with Students and AlumniOn Friday, September 14, a unique daylong event entitled “Career Connection” was held on-campus to promote the interaction between students and alumni, and to expose students to different career opportunities ,and help them develop networking and job search skills. The event was built on the success of last year’s program, and was a joint effort between the Department of Business Administration & Economics, Career Services, and Alumni Relations. The campus hosted 48 alumni and friends of SUNY Brockport at this event. The individuals represented 35 businesses, 1 law school, and two graduate business schools, many of whom do not typically attend campus job/recruiting fairs. Multiple sessions were held throughout the day including presentations on: What does International Business Really Mean & What are the opportunities; Entrepreneurship; Careers in Law Enforcement; MBA, MS & PhD Programs; Strategies to Obtain Federal Government Jobs; College to Career; and Making Connections—secrets to effective networking. In addition to the classroom presentations and panel discussions, a company information fair was held in the Fireside Lounge. This allowed students to ask questions in a personalized setting and gave alumni a chance to share information about their specific companies. Both student and alumni response to the event has been extremely positive.
Planning for next year’s event is already underway. Since it is in conjunction with Homecoming Weekend we are pleased to be able to share the date. It will be held on Friday, October 3, 2008. |
