Graduate Programs in Accounting
Admission Criteria
Criteria and procedures for application will require submission or evidence of the following:
Students will be required to submit a standard graduate application form to the Graduate Studies Office along with evidence of the following:
- Baccalaureate degree with at least 120 hours.
- Completion of the following undergraduate accounting courses with a minimum grade of C in each course:
Accounting Coursework Minimum Principles 6 hours Intermediate 6 hours Cost or Managerial 3 hours Federal Income Tax 3 hours Advanced 3 hours Auditing 3 hours
- Completion of up to 24 hours in the following undergraduate business courses with a minimum grade of C-
:
Management Information Systems (or AIS) 3 hours Principles of Finance 3 hours Principles of Management or Organizational Behavior 3 hours Principles of Marketing 3 hours Basic Statistics 3 hours Business Law I or Legal Environment of Business 3 hours Strategic Management or Business Strategy 3 hours
- Demonstrable foundation in the following content areas, skills and courses with a minimum grade of C-
:
Principles of Micro and macro Economics 6 hours Calculus 3 hours Business writing or business communications Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel and Access. Commitment to compliance with college and department standards of ethics and professional conduct. - 3.0 or higher overall undergraduate grade point average.
- GMAT or GRE.
- Personal statement expressing reasons for application, and interest in accounting as an academic discipline and in accounting practice.
- At least two recommendation letters.
Prior formal education combined with requirements of the master of science degree must meet State Education requirements to sit for the Uniform CPA examination as follows1: a combined minimum of 33 hours in accounting, a combined minimum of 36 hours in business subjects other than accounting, and a combined minimum of 60 hours of liberal arts and sciences. In addition, students will be required to submit the following documents:
Criteria for admission will include objective evidence in a) and b) above. The subjective elements in c), d), and e) will be evaluated in the context of applicants’ demonstrating appropriate interest and likelihood of success in completing the degree.
