America Reads
There are two ways to get involved.  Work as a tutor through the Work-Study program, or volunteer.  All tutors must take the Student Literacy Corps course described below in their first semester. 

Job Description 
The State University of New York College at Brockport is participating in the federal America Reads Program to provide literacy and tutoring services to children in kindergarten through sixth grade at the Brockport School District.  There are approximately 15 student tutor positions available to eligible College Work Study students.  For the first semester, students will be required to take EDI 360 (Student Literacy Corps) an upper division course offered through the Department of Education and Human Development.


 Minimum Qualifications:
1.     College Work Study eligible, or option to volunteer.
2.     2.5 GPA minimum.
3.     Open to any academic major.


 Salary:  minimum wage with periodic raises based on performance.


 Hours:  Tutoring will take place during the regular elementary school day (8:30 am – 3:30 pm) for a maximum of 20 hours per week.


 Primary responsibility:  Directly responsible to the classroom teachers for the provision of literacy services to children in kindergarten through sixth grade.


 Key Functions:
1.     Assists students with academic assignments.
2.     Corrects papers.
3.     May assist students with disabilities with their daily activities with regard to mobility.
4.     Monitors students and assists in maintaining discipline in the classroom.
5.     Performs simple and routine clerical duties such as copying or duplicating, filing and compiling attendance sheets, and some typing.
6.     Performs other duties as may be assigned by the classroom teacher and/or the Building Principal or his/her designee.
