M. Fox, the Senate Resolution passed in 2011-12 is reflected in the content below (removal of CHM 303, addition of CHM 302 and CHM 407). There is no clear language in that resolution that omits the student option in the 2011-13 catalog of taking CHM 405,406,408,409 (and MTH 203) in lieu of CHM 404, which the department has requested and these requirements reflect. From Markus "As for the CHM 404 course, yes we omitted the CHM 405 etc option for simplification. By advisement, we can still honor such alternative for the student but the reality is that it is very unlikely any student would ever do that."
The goals of the major in biochemistry are to prepare students interested in understanding living systems with the knowledge and technical skills needed to understand how organisms function at the molecular level. The program addresses structure, function, and regulation of biomolecules and supramolecular assemblies at both the cellular and multicellular level. Biochemistry graduates will be prepared with the knowledge and technical skills necessary for careers in health care, pharmaceuticals, biotechnical research and development, and public policy and regulation in addition to possibilities for further development in graduate or professional
Any undergraduate student can declare a major in biochemistry.
