Computer Information Systems Minor

Description

The criminal justice program is for students interested in studying the causes, prevention and control of crime, as well as the theories and policies relative to the structure and operation of various police, security, correctional and judicial organizations. The department’s curricular and programmatic philosophy is primarily professional, though students are exposed to a wide array of intellectual disciplines across the College.

Admission to the Program

Anyone can declare this minor.

Program Requirements

An academic minor in criminal justice requires the student to complete at least 18 hours of semester credit course work in the field as specified. At least nine hours must be taken at Brockport.

Required Courses: Nine credits as indicated below (9 credits)

  • CRJ101 Introduction to Criminal Justice
  • CRJ305 Adjudication Process

AND ONE of the following:

  • CRJ203 Police Process
  • CRJ207 Correction Process

Elective Courses* (9 credits)

*The remaining nine hours of elective courses (for a total of 18 credits) are selected from the department course offerings with the advice and prior approval of the student's advisor. At least one half of all criminal justice courses used for a minor must be upper division (300/400) level.
